Alisha Bavin creates a journey into realms that make the viewer question everything.
Alisha Bavin is an artist and art teacher residing in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She studied at the University of New Mexico and St. Mary-of-the-Woods College where she obtained her BFA, MA in Arts Education and an MA in Art Therapy. She believes in providing her students with the ability to creatively express themselves through their artwork, and to always ask questions. Similar to her own work, she wishes for the viewers to take a journey that is created by her imagery and ask questions; questions of themselves, the story presented, and their place in the story. Her favorite quote is “ Art is meant to disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturbed” -Cesar A. Cruz
Artist Statement
As an artist, I am constantly looking for ways to make the viewer question what they are seeing. I believe in the power of symbology and connectedness that individuals can have between the visual world and their inner world. I have recently been expanding my ideas through collage and using them as somewhat of a sketch for my paintings. This allows me to recreate a surreal composition through painting using imagery that I collect. I enjoy recreating the collage in oil paint and seeing where it takes me. For me painting is a way for me to express the ever changing world we live in and explore my own feelings of life, death, and what it means to be human.
